SUMMARY:October Masterclass — Governance Over Generations: Experiences of Two Large\, Hundred-Year Families on Sustaining Long-Term Governance
DESCRIPTION:As families grow across generations\, governance must account for a broader range of family members\, leadership needs and shared responsibilities. This October Masterclass\, the second session in the series\, examines how two long-established families have adapted their governance practices as their enterprises\, family networks and circumstances have changed over time. \nBoth families are geographically dispersed\, have sold several operating businesses and now function as extended family communities with hundreds of members. Their experience offers a practical view of how governance can support family connection and shared responsibility long after the founding generation. \nDuring the masterclass\, Langdon Evans and Isabel Carvajal Sardi will share examples from their own families. Dennis Jaffe will moderate the discussion. \nWhat You’ll Explore \nThe session will examine how large\, multigenerational families address the demands of governance over time. \nYou’ll hear about: \n\nEngaging rising generations in family governance and shared responsibility\nDeveloping leaders and preparing family members for new roles\nResponding to crises within a large and dispersed family network\nPassing responsibility from one generation to the next\nSupporting the individual life goals of family members while maintaining family connection and a shared enterprise\nGovernance structures and practices that have changed as the family community has grown\n\nMembers can register here \nMeet the Speakers: \nModerator: \nDennis T. SUMMARY:July Masterclass: The Awakening of Family Governance: Evolution of Family Enterprise After the Founder
DESCRIPTION:As families move from founder-led to multi-generational leadership\, governance shifts from informal decision-making to structured collaboration. This July Masterclass explores what families actually need to build governance that works and how advisors can guide that evolution. \nMany families discover that legal documents and financial structures alone don’t solve the real challenges of shared decision-making. True governance is an ecosystem: agreements\, policies\, structures\, events and practices that work together to let the family function as a thriving community. Building this ecosystem is fundamentally different from the informal\, paternalistic model that worked when one founder made the decisions. \nDuring the masterclass\, Dennis Jaffe\, Rebecca Meyer and Pat Armstrong will examine the triggers that prompt families to formalize governance\, what an operating governance system actually looks like and how advisors support families through this transition. \nWhat You’ll Explore \nThe session addresses the practical questions advisors encounter: What signals that a family needs structured governance? How does governance mature across generations? And what first steps create early wins without over-engineering? \nYou’ll work through: \n\nWhy second-generation families pursue formal governance\, and why this is a different need than their founding generation had\nThe guiding principles that shape effective family governance: meaningful\, inclusive\, flexible\, fair and fit-to-purpose\nThe core elements families need: values\, decision-making structures\, communication practices\, conflict resolution approaches and policies around wealth and employment\nHow families actually get started\, including real examples of the triggers\, first meetings and early decisions that build momentum\nHow to engage the rising generation as builders\, not just participants\, in the governance work\n\nThe session is interactive\, with polling questions and time to discuss how these frameworks apply to the families you advise. \nMembers can register here. \nMeet the Facilitators: \n \nDennis T. SUMMARY:May Roundtable | Geopolitics & Risk: Turning Headline Risk into UHNW Family Strategy
DESCRIPTION:Members can register in the portal here. \nGeopolitics & Risk: Turning Headline Risk into UHNW Family Strategy \nEdward Marshall\, Presage Global in conversation with Ted Gistaro\, a Senior US Intelligence Community leader and Michael McGowan\, Managing Director and shareholder on the Investment Strategy team at Pathstone. \nAs the Iran conflict continues to disrupt global energy markets\, supply chains\, and geopolitical stability\, its ripple effects are extending far beyond the Middle East—reshaping inflation\, investment risk\, and security dynamics worldwide. \nRecent developments highlight the scale and complexity of the moment. Disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz—responsible for roughly 20% of global oil flows—have driven volatility in energy prices\, increased inflationary pressure\, and elevated recession risk if instability persists. At the same time\, a structural shift is underway: the United Arab Emirates’ decision to step away from OPEC signals a potential fragmentation of coordinated energy policy\, introducing new uncertainty around supply discipline\, pricing power\, and long-term geopolitical alignment. \nTogether\, these forces are not only disrupting near-term markets—they are reshaping the global energy order\, capital flows\, and strategic alliances in ways that will have lasting implications for inflation\, interest rates\, and economic growth. Concurrently\, global growth forecasts have been downgraded\, with economists warning of prolonged economic scarring even in a de-escalation scenario. \nFor UHNW families\, this is not simply a macroeconomic story—it is a multi-dimensional risk event that cuts across every layer of wealth and decision-making: \n• Portfolio construction and asset allocation\, including the role of AI-driven valuations and the broader economic implications of artificial intelligence \n• Physical and cyber security exposure\, amid rising geopolitical tension and asymmetric threats \n• Mobility\, residency\, and jurisdictional risk\, as geopolitical alignment increasingly influences regulatory and sovereign stability \n• Family governance and decision-making under uncertainty\, particularly across multi-generational structures with differing risk perspectives \nPANELISTS \nThis roundtable brings together leading experts to move beyond headlines and into actionable insight: \n\nEdward ‘Ted’ Gistaro\, Senior US Intelligence Community leader with over 35 years of experience leading multidisciplinary enterprise\, analytic\, and operational teams. Ted has extensive experience developing and driving teams to success in Washington and the Field to increase insight of and mitigate against Transnational and Hard Target threats.\nMichael McGowan\, bringing a capital markets and portfolio strategy lens from Pathstone\, with deep experience advising UHNW families on navigating complex market environments\n\n• Edward Marshall\, offering a geopolitical risk and security perspective from Presage Global\, focused on how global instability translates into real-world risk for families and institutions \nTogether\, they will unpack what is actually happening beneath the surface—and how UHNW families and their advisors can recalibrate risk frameworks\, reposition capital\, and strengthen resilience in an increasingly fragmented and unpredictable global landscape.

SUMMARY:Collegium X: Human Capital: Competing Forces: The Challenge of Delivering Integrated Advice in the Era of AI
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Virtual Collegium X: Human Capital: Competing Forces: The Challenge of Delivering Integrated Advice in the Era of AI. This 90-minute program\, designed for leading minds in practice management\, combines a plenary session with facilitated peer breakout groups to address the most pressing human capital questions facing the industry today. \nWednesday\, April 23\, 2026 | 3:30 PM ET \nTwo forces are reshaping how firms build and deploy their people: surging client demand for integrated advice and the rapid expansion of AI across core work processes. Meeting that demand requires cultivating human capital at scale. Yet as automation takes hold\, the question of how to develop deep\, applied\, client-facing experience becomes increasingly difficult to answer. \nVirtual Collegium X will address these tensions directly: \n\nHow do we cultivate and scale human capital to meet a pronounced and surging demand for integrated advice? What are the implications and opportunities for firms?\nHow does AI intersect with the development of human capital? Is it an asset or an obstacle? How do we cultivate and mentor deep\, applied\, client-facing experience when many work processes are being automated?\n\nThe program will be split equally between a plenary session framed around these questions and facilitated breakout groups. Breakouts will include reporting back and give attendees the opportunity to engage with peers\, discuss what is working and reach a shared understanding of how the industry can rise to the challenge. \nMembers can register to attend in the portal\, here.

SUMMARY:March Roundtable – A Blueprint for Multi-Generational Success: Building a Coalition of the Willing
DESCRIPTION:“Who will take over the business after you?”  \nThis question – so familiar\, so often asked of family business owner-managers by advisors\, bankers\, friends and family – is built on an assumption: succession planning is a baton pass. The assumption is understandable: Transition by baton pass has been the default of families and their advisors throughout the world for centuries. The premise that ownership and control of the business should pass to a single family member continues to dominate. \nBut the baton pass isn’t the only option. Enterprising families can choose to share ownership and governance. The advantages? The opportunity to tap into the full range of skills\, talents and experience in the family tree to benefit the family in ways that go beyond financial gain. \nThe UHNW Institute invites members to join the authors of its latest whitepaper\, A Blueprint for Multi-Generational Success: Building a Coalition of the Willing for a roundtable discussion on March 26 at 3:30 PM ET. \nIn their work with enterprising families throughout the world\, they have advised families who felt that passing the baton was not the optimal model for their transition\, and who have chosen to embark on a very different journey. To change the metaphor\, these families want to design and build a very different structure of leadership and governance\, with architecture that permits wider participation in the ownership and management of the enterprise\, and to promote coordination with the family’s purpose and vision. They seek to welcome and foster what we call a “multi-generational coalition of the willing.” \nBuilding a multi-generational coalition and a new form of governance of the family enterprise isn’t easy. You can likely hear the protests already: “Management knows best!” “Non-managing owners meddle in decisions they know nothing about!” “We need to protect the business!” “They’ll just want money!” \nThese concerns are common and even understandable. But they don’t mean that owning and operating a family enterprise with a multi-generational coalition is so challenging as to be impossible or unwise. \nWhat was learned is that the path from one to many – from individual owner-manager to multi-generational coalition\, operating in a purpose-built structure for leadership and governance\, with the right wings\, rooms and chairs – does require a shared purpose and vision\, as well as a set of processes\, practices and habits of mind not taught in traditional business management programs: a Coalition Mindset. \nGuided by focused questions\, the authors will highlight their distinct expertise and elevate the key perspectives readers should draw from the work. Attendees at the roundtable will be introduced to the core elements of the Coalition Mindset and provided with a practical framework for families and advisors interested in exploring this alternative approach. \nPart 1 of the paper will be released on February 23\, followed by Part 2 in early March.
