Happy New Year! An Announcement from the Chairman, Steve Prostano
With both gratitude for the past and optimism for the future, we announce the retirement of Jim Grubman and the appointment of Tom McCullough as Managing Director of Thought Leadership and Strategy.
We are deeply grateful to Jim Grubman for his significant contributions to The Institute, including the 10 Domains of Family Wealth, the Wealthesaurus, and the AIM Framework, as well as his steadfast dedication and demonstrated thought leadership over the past seven years. Jim has also been a trusted friend and mentor to everyone at The Institute.
The development of this transition plan began more than two years ago and included a comprehensive analysis of Jim’s roles and responsibilities, an examination of the evolving needs of The Institute as a Think Tank and Learning Exchange, the creation of a new job description, and the identification of potential successors. We also engaged several Board Members with extensive experience in leadership transitions, including Linda Mack of Mack International.
We began implementing the transition plan in 2025, and we are pleased that Jim will continue to work with us as an Advisor and as a member of our Emeritus Board.
We are confident that Tom McCullough’s background, experience, and demonstrated thought leadership will help take The Institute to the next level. Tom has authored numerous books and articles, has been engaged many times as an expert speaker on the wealth management industry, UHNW families, and family offices, and teaches at the university level. In addition, his experience includes building, leading, and managing several wealth management platforms, most recently as Chairman and CEO of the award-winning Northwood Family Office. Tom continues as Founder and Chairman at Northwood Family Office.
In his new role, Tom will focus on advancing The Institute’s thought leadership strategy; leading our Leading Edge Innovation meetings, which will serve as a key driver of our annual strategy; working closely with our Domain Chairs and Institute Faculty; and supporting talent management within The Institute.
Please join me in welcoming Tom to his new role and in thanking Jim Grubman for his remarkable contributions to The Institute and the industry.
Sincerely,
Steve Prostano
