THE UHNW INSTITUTE AUGUST 2025 MONTHLY THEME
A Little R&R… And R to End the Summer
The UHNW Institute‘s 2025 Summer Reading List
Dear UHNW Institute Members,
It’s that time again. To aid in your last month of rest, relaxation and READING, the UHNW Institute’s 2025 Summer Reading List will be available shortly, so watch your inbox! Explore our selection of must-read books, engaging podcasts, and thought-provoking articles, chosen specifically for our Institute Community.
Each August, the UHNW Institute curates and shares a summer reading list culled from recommendations from our membership to curate a ‘think-tank worthy’ list of multi-disciplinary reads. We also like to take the opportunity to get a little personal by showing off our adorable grandbabies, cute pups, and bare feet in photos of us reading! If you haven’t already, send us your photos and follow the UHNW Institute on LinkedIn.
Looking to add to your professional knowledge or enjoy some casual reading? This list has something for everyone. Explore the full selection and make the most of your remaining dog days of summer with our top picks, including: Conflict Resilience by Robert C. Bordone and Joel Salinas, M.D., recommended by Arne Boudewyn, Moira Somers, and Stacy Allred. Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande, a must-read according to Natasha Pearl, who calls it ‘Essential reading for SFOs and their advisors, and probably everyone!’ And my personal favorite podcasts: The Diary of a CEO Podcast hosted by Steven Bartlett and The Prof G Pod – Scott Galloway at his blunt best.
According to New York Times, less than half of adults report reading more than one book per year. But it is safe to say that the UHNW Institute community challenges that statistic. Our annual summer reading list grows each year and is guided by members’ suggestions and recommendations. It contains recommended professional books ranging in topics from leadership to family offices. And no list would be complete without fiction and ‘for fun’ suggestions, too. We were also inspired by our friends at Northwood Family Office and their excellent list found here.
On a final note, The Institute will take a break from regular programming this month, but invites you to enjoy this month’s UHNW Institute Podcast, Navigating Risk Management, where Russ Haworth speaks with Kate Norris from Atténuer Risk about risk management for UHNW families.
Kate shares how her experience in financial services led to the creation of Atténuer Risk, a firm focused on non-portfolio threats, from personal security and digital exposure to interpersonal and reputational risk. She explains why advisors need a broader understanding of family vulnerability and how customized planning can help strengthen long-term security. Their conversation highlights the advisor’s role in risk conversations, how families benefit from independent support, and where current trends are pointing next.
If you have any questions about this month’s theme or are interested in joining The UHNW Institute, please do not hesitate to contact us. Enjoy the remaining month of Summer!
